Skaters should know how to do the following turns: 3 turns, Mohawks, double 3’s, at least one single twizzle, the basic concept of a FI to BO Choctaw, and have good basic skating skills - stroking, crossovers, cross strokes and power pulls. They need to be able to do: a back lunge, a shoot-the-duck, & spirals. They should have or be working on O. spread eagles & bauers. It will be a plus to have: a great split jump, good spins, and a 135 degree grab foot spiral. Posture, presentation, and timing are an important part of tryouts. This team is intended for those skaters wishing to make synchronized skating an important part of their figure skating experience. This team is not meant for those who look to synchro just as a social activity. A good positive attitude is required. You must be willing to work very hard and not complain. Some new rules to enforce this will be in effect this coming season. This summer the team will practice 3 hours on ice and 1 hour off ice: Tuesdays 2:15-3:15 off ice & 3:30-4:30 on ice, Wednesdays 3:45-4:45, & Thursdays 3:15-4:15. We skate as much as we can during the summer because more ice time is available to us. This allows us time to develop the skating skills, program elements, and set our program. During the school year we plan on skating Tuesday evenings from 8:00-9:00 pm & Thursdays at the same time alternating one week on ice & the other off. They will also have occasional practices on Saturdays sometime between 5:15 and 6:45 pm. This team will attend the Midwestern Championships in Rochester MN February 3-5 of 2011. They will also attend the Ann Arbor MI competition in December of 2010, and approximately 5 other competitions. Costs: A separate information sheet on synchronized skating estimated costs is available. Practices for tryouts will be held: Thursdays April 22nd & 29th 8-9 pm and Tuesday April 27th 8-9 pm. You do not need to attend all the practices. Tryouts will be held Tuesday May 4th & 11th 8:00-9:00 pm & Thursday May 6th (& 13th if needed) 8:00-9:00 pm. If you cannot attend one of the days, let me know and I will arrange your tryout accordingly. Results from the tryout will be posted sometime during the week of May 17th. This list will include all skaters who will be part of the team, including alternates. Please note: If you do not make the team you are trying out for we will place you on an appropriate team. You do not need to try out for two teams. A Parent Meeting will be held Tuesday May 25th at 8:15 pm in the Bob Fick room. At this meeting a manual with important information will be given out including estimated budgets. We will be answering questions and distributing commitment forms. These forms will need to be signed & returned before summer skating begins. Please Hold August 13th, 14th, & 15th open for our local camp with Jeannine Cullen-Weinschrod. It is very important to have the entire team take part in this camp. Please make every effort to attend. Please fill out and return the Tryouts Registration Form to the RFSC office by Saturday, April 17th. See the 2010-2011 Tryouts Poster for more details. Thank you!
