It has been three years since we had this level team. We would like to have this level for several reasons. First, it is a level that can qualify to go on to Nationals and would help build a strong team for the future. We also would prefer to have teams at different levels. If we get through tryouts and are unable to have this level team, we will have to choose a different level at which to compete. For tryouts skaters should know how to do the following turns: 3 turns, Mohawks, and be working on double 3’s. They should have decent basic skating skills - stroking, crossovers, and edges. They should be working on cross strokes and power pulls. They need to be able to do: a forward lunge, & spirals. It will be a plus to have: a shoot-the-duck, a backward lunge, and a good spin. Posture, presentation, and timing are part of what will be judged at tryouts. If you intend to be a part of this team you need to plan to work hard. A good positive attitude is required. You must be willing to work hard and not complain. Some new rules to enforce this will be in effect this coming season. This summer the team will practice 2 hours on ice and 1 hour off- ice. Tuesdays 3:15-4:15 off ice, 4:30-5:30 ice, and Thursdays either 3:45-4:45 or 4:15-5:15. It is expected that this team would practice during the school year on Wednesdays from 4:15-5:15 pm and Thursdays 8-9 pm alternating one week on ice & the other off. They would also have some occasional Saturday practices sometime between 5:15-6:45 pm. We will discuss which competitions to attend once the team is formed, but you may expect about 5 competitions including the Midwestern Championships in Rochester MN February 3-5 2011. Costs: A separate information sheet on synchronized skating estimated costs is available. Practices for tryouts will be held: Thursdays April 22nd & 29th 8-9 pm and Tuesday April 27th 8-9 pm. You do not need to attend all the practices. Tryouts will be held Tuesday May 4th & 11th 8:00-9:00 pm & Thursday May 6th (& 13th if needed) 8:00-9:00 pm. If you cannot attend one of the days, let me know and I will arrange your tryout accordingly. Results from the tryout will be posted sometime during the week of May 17th. This list will include all skaters who will be part of the team, including alternates. Please note: If you do not make the team you are trying out for we will place you on an appropriate team. You do not need to try out for two teams. A Parent Meeting will be held Thursday May 27th at 8:15 pm in the Bob Fick room located upstairs in the Rec Center. At this meeting a manual with important information will be given out including estimated budgets. We will be answering questions and distributing commitment forms. These forms will need to be signed & returned before summer skating begins. Please Hold August 13th, 14th, & 15th open for our local camp with Jeannine Cullen-Weinschrod. It is very important to have the entire team take part in this camp. Please make every effort to attend. Please fill out and return the Tryouts Registration Form to the RFSC office by Saturday, April 17th. See the 2010-2011 Tryouts Poster for more details. Thank you!
